Welcome to the London Interpreters' Practice Group

Do you find it challenging to practise interpreting on your own? Are you looking for opportunities to exchange feedback with colleagues, perhaps? Are you interested in expanding your interpreting skills with up-to-date speeches and live debates?

If you answered “yes” to any of these questions, the London Interpreters’ Practice Group may be just what you are looking for.

Who are we?

The London Interpreters' Practice Group (LIPG) was founded in 2019 with the support of London Metropolitan University. Initially, the group was set up for conference interpreters based in the United Kingdom. However, as sessions are now held online, the LIPG welcomes English-speaking members from all over the world.

The LIPG provides an energetic, productive and friendly space for conference interpreters to boost their interpreting practice and connect with colleagues. Our mission is to offer peer-supported interpreting practice (for both simultaneous and consecutive) for conference interpreters with English as one of their working languages. In short, the LIPG is a collaborative community of qualified conference interpreting practitioners, encouraging mutual respect, professional development, peer-to-peer feedback and a positive mindset toward learning.

What languages do we offer?

Our current members practise with Brazilian Portuguese, Bulgarian, Chinese, English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Romanian, Russian, Spanish and Swedish. New members with other language combinations would be very welcome. Please note that you may not have a booth partner if no other members have the same language combination. If that’s you, feel free to invite a friend with your language combination to join us too!

About our sessions

For each session, the organising committee puts together a detailed agenda which focuses on a particular topic. Guest speakers often participate in our live debates on current affairs and topics that are relevant to the industry. The sessions dedicate time to both consecutive and simultaneous interpreting. Get a glimpse of the sessions by heading to our repository of speeches on the LIPG's YouTube channel.

The practice sessions take place on the first Monday of the month on Zoom from 6.30 PM - 8.30 PM (UK time). These monthly practice sessions are an excellent opportunity for members to establish a consistent practice routine and easily invest in their CPD every month. So, for an annual membership fee of just £12, what are you waiting for? Come and join us!

Thinking of joining the LIPG?

If you are a qualified conference interpreter with English as one of your working languages, then the LIPG is the right community for you. You may be a recent graduate or need further practice with other like-minded professionals in the field. If you’d like to join, get in touch via email or LinkedIn. You’ll then be asked to fill in this short membership form.

We are open for applications during the whole length of our calendar of sessions, which takes place from September to July. Please note that the annual membership fee payment is collected every September, regardless of the month in which a new member has joined.
